Purple Mountain Majesty

These were just a few of the views I got to see this past weekend. As I drove into Estes park on Friday evening, the mountains were reflecting the sun so brightly that everything in the area, all the mountains, all the surrounding skies were a shade of white. A lazy late summer evening shade of hazy white. It was serene and one of those pictures that can only be in your memory, a photograph would never do it justice.

We drove up to Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday. Just to check out the views. It was completely worth the $20 to get through the gate. This is what they sing about in songs. This is what poems are written about. If I were more elegant with my words, I would sing or write one as well... but I can't. So... I just breathe deeply and enjoy the moment.

Early this morning, I went on a photo hunt for elk. None to be found during high tourist season though. They were hiding from the people. Can't blame them really. But I did find some amazing sun light. Oh how I love sunlight.

And of course... I did visit this place. The inspiration for the "Shining"....the Stanley Hotel. Contrary to popular belief, it was not filmed there. Steven King did write it there though. And let me tell you, I don't really get too frightened by random places, but this one..... Creeeeeepy. And I was only inside for a few minutes. I spent all my time on the outside near the fire pit.

I'm so jealous!!! I've always wanted to go there. Do you have any pictures of the inside?

I did not get any shots of the inside. It was stinking scary though... and I LOVE old places. this one, not so much. I see it about once a year or so. Never stayed there though.
But if you want to come on out here to the Rockies... I'll stay with you, I have a feeling you could kick some ghost butt!
