Seriously Unhealthy, but......

......oh so good!!! For the most part I'm a pretty healthy eater. Yes, I have a sweet tooth which I try (optimum word "try") to keep under control, but I don't eat grease. I despise fast food. But sometimes (about three times a year) I let my hair down and just go for it....I'll suffer the consequences. On the menu: Stromboli With Pepperoni and Sauteed Mushrooms or Black Olives. (I don't do fungus, so I have to mix it up a little) with Onion Rings/ Strings and Vanilla Pudding topped with Meringue and laced with Pureed Nectarine.

Stromboli

1 loaf of bread dough
sauteed mushrooms or
black olives or whatever extra things you choose......
*Provolone cheese
*Mozzarella Cheese
*Pepperoni slices
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried parsley
*shredded Parmesan cheese
*spaghetti sauce (I just buy it in the jar to make it easy)
1 egg yolk mixed with a tsp of water

* use at your own discretion, however much you want

Roll out bread dough on lightly floured surface into a 8x30 rectangle. Cut in half. Layer the long side with sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms (or whatever you choose) mozzarella cheese, provolone, oregano, parsley and a sprinkling of Parmesan. Fold over and pinch ends together and brush on egg yolk to hold together. Sprinkle more Parmesan on top. Put on lightly greased baking sheet and cook at 350 degrees for about 30-40 minutes until it turns golden brown.

I found the recipe for the Onion Strings at the pioneerwoman.com. She's hilarious!!! These are sooo easy too. I hate deep fried foods, but I had to try these and to my suprise they were wonderful.

Onion Strings

2 cups buttermilk (if you don't have buttermilk, just mix 1 cup milk per one tablespoon of lemon juice and let stand for 5 minutes....same thing)
2 cups flour
Pepper
Cayenne pepper
1 onion
a lot of oil in a pan heated for frying.......(you can be the judge and it doesn't really matter what kind, but canola seems to work really well)

Slice onion into thin pieces and soak in buttermilk. Mix Flour, pepper, cayenne pepper in bowl and then dredge the onion in it until they are completely covered. Fry in oil for a minute until golden brown.....scarf them down. (They really are good)

This was just a little after thought. I had an egg white not wanting to be wasted....so I mixed it up on high for a couple minutes, added a little powdered suger and viola...meringue (which is like having a fluffy white cloud of sweetness in your mouth.) I also had a nectarine not wanting to be spoiled so I pureed it and put it in pudding and once again...viola.....a beautiful dessert!!!
